Hey guys, I know there’s countless complaints about recruitment and mine is probably not that different, and probably won’t be of interest to the majority since usually only the leader and sometimes co leaders engage in clan recruitment, but after a couple of days of recruiting, I just had to let my frustration out, in the form of a massive, boring wall of text.

Before I rant about the issues in recruitment, I think it’s best if I say a little bit about the clan and what type of people I’m looking to recruit. So the clan I’m in, has around 45 people (out of which around 8 are people I recruited a few days ago, I’m not expecting them to stick around for long, so realistically we have only around 37-39 members) and its a level 11 clan, people from around 13 countries, but we communicate in English, mostly adults but there are people from 16 all the way up to 60s. There’s a couple of TH14s and 13s but the majority are TH12s and TH11s. CWL crystal 1 and we are fairly active (get around 140,000 Clan games points per season)
And the type of people I’m looking to recruit are, anybody who is above TH10 with level 30+ king/queen, speaks English and is online for at least a few minutes a day.

Now regarding the issues, l feel like after Supercell decided to close down global chat, a lot of clans, especially the not-so-serious ones and the relatively lower level ones found it extremely difficult to recruit and as a result I’ve seen many clans slowly die out, which is a sad sight to see, and then a few weeks back the supercell forums were also closed, and that I feel is also quite a negative impact on the social aspect of the game. Now all that I know of, when it comes to recruiting are
1. Clash of clans Reddit
2. Clash of clans Discord servers
3. Ingame recruitment tool

Starting off with recruiting through Reddit, first of all I don’t find it as effective as it should be, for reasons such as
1. It only allows you to post a recruitment thread once per week.
2. I feel that out of the millions of Clash of clans players, the people who visit the clash of clans subreddit are quite few.
3. Even though the recruitment tool needs a lot of improvement, I feel its still more efficient than this.

Then the issues with advertising the clan on Discord servers
1. I’m not sure if I’m right about this, but from what I’ve seen, the majority of people that you can recruit through these discord servers are very young, and I’m not very keen on recruiting people say, below 16/15 becuase from what I’ve seen so far, after a few months they quit playing or go inactive ,for reasons such as upgrade times being too long, or they get interested in another game (that’s why I suppose it’s pretty rare to find someone who’s made significant progress in the game and is very young at the same time)
2. People who you can recruit through Discord servers will naturally be inclined to join a clan which has a discord server, and most casual clans, such as ours, don’t have a discord server, for reasons such as casual players, especially adults don’t really want to install/use another app for mobile game.
3. I still find the recruitment tool better than recruiting on discord.

Now the Issues which I constantly face when using the recruitment tool (which is what I mainly use)

1. On an average, to get one player to accept your invite, you need to spam around 40 invites, and approximately 4/5 of the people who accept the invite get kicked or leave due to many reasons in the first couple of days, so to get a single actual recruit who has a chance of staying, you need to send around 200 invites. (These are the numbers that I’ve experienced when recruiting and can be drastically higher/lower than others have experienced)

2. After the recent update of the recruitment tool, I’ve noticed that around half the people who show up in the ‘find new players’ tab, are already in clans, in fact some of then are elders, co leaders and even leaders of other clans. I know this is becuase the number of clans looking for players is far greater than the number of players looking for clans, but come on, there’s only a very little chance that the player will leave his clan to join ours , and even if he does do that, if he’s willing to leave his clan for ours, he’s probably going to leave our clan for some other clan.

3. Another recent issue after the update of the recruitment tool- ‘players inbox is full, unable to send invite’ . Now I know the reason is because the recruitment tool does not function on real time, it’s a snap of potential recruits 24 hours ago, and by the time they show up in the list, their inboxes are filled with invites, but come on, what’s the point of showing a player in the recruitment tab if you can’t even send him an invite? What’s the point?

4. Players who don’t speak your language, this issue has been significantly reduced after the update, but still there’s lots of players who accept your invite, and they leave or you have to kick them because they don’t speak your language.

5. Now these are obvious issues when using the recruitment tool which are not faced when using Reddit or Discord, but sadly this is the majority of people who accept your invite in the recruitment tab.
a)recruit-*joins clan*
recruit- *says nothing*
You- “hello? Welcome to our clan”
recruit- *says nothing*
-couple of minutes/hours later-
recruit-*has left the clan*

b)recruit-*joins clan*
recruit- *requests troops right after that*
recruit- *has been kicked out of the clan*

c)recruit- *joined and left the clan*

d)recruit- *joins clan*
recruit- “hi”
You- “hello! Welcome to our clan!”
recruit- “Thank you! :)”
You- “Interested in staying?”
recruit- “yes of course! I’d love to stay”
-a few hours later-
recruit- *has left the clan*

e)recruit- *joins clan*
(few days before/during clan games)
You- “hello! Welcome to our clan”
recruit-” thank you, I’m here to stay”
You- “great, hope you like it here!”
recruit- *patiently waits and sees if we complete all the tiers in clan games, when we do, does one challenge*
recruit- * alright guys this clan isn’t good*
recruit- *has left the clan*

f)recruit-*joins clan*
(few days before CWL)
You- “hello! Are you here just to play cwl or to stay?”
recruit- “no no don’t worry, I’m here to stay, but I’d love to play cwl too”
-right after CWL is over-
recruit- *has left the clan*

So yeah, due to the last two reasons, it’s really not effective to recruit (unless you’re looking for members for just those two events that is) just before clan games starts, till cwl. The reason being that people who join during those days, are usually people who are not active enough to stay in active clans, but also want the CWL medals and Clan games rewards, which only active clans can get.Ive seen this happen to us, and a lot of other amateur/ clans with low- medium town hall players. A th13/th14 joins right before Clan Games/ CWL (especially clan games) and the members and the leader of the clan are quite happy that a ‘high’ level player has joined, and that guy also pretends that he is here to stay and be a part of the clan, when his only intention is to get the clan games rewards and be out right after that.

So yeah, I don’t really know the point of this lengthy post other than complain about an issue which is obvious to everyone, I just wanted to put my frustration out, I doubt anyone would read through the entire thing, but I’m okay with that because I wouldn’t for sure, but any suggestions or ideas on how to recruit players would be most appreciated.

  1. I totally agree with you, recruiting these days is hard, and it takes a lot of time and effort. However, when it comes to reddit, while we only offer a weekly sticky, you can go check out r/ClashOfClansRecruit! You may have some more success there :p
