1. Haven’t looked much into gem efficiency but I believe spending them on books in the trader is generally a good idea, longer the upgrade the better gem efficiency. A training potion or two wouldn’t go astray and a book of heroes is probably my favourite choice but that’s just for war junkies like myself.

2. Magic Items from the trader are a good choice. At your level, don’t go for the super troop potions, it’s more efficient to buy them with dark elixir from a dark elixir rune. Books are a good way to skip long upgrade times, especially books of heroes. I’d generally recommend prioritising laboratory potions over builder potions, but it depends on how quickly you need troop upgrades done.
