Looking to interview people on spending in games

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD student at the University of York, and I am conducting research into the way digital games make money and how this might negatively affect players. Previously, we conducted a survey to understand what types of monetisation are perceived by players to be predatory, which some of you may have filled out (you can read about it here, if you’re interested [](

I am now recruiting people to learn more about people’s motivations behind in-game spending. For this, I need a large amount of qualitative data, to get maximum possible detail. So, I’m looking to interview people about their in-game spending habits and motivations. The recruitment criteria are 1) you must be over 18 and 2) you must at some point have bought something in a game. If you would like to participate, please fill out this form – []( – and I will get in contact with you to set up a call. So far, interviews have taken about 30 minutes.

All your information will of course be kept confidential, stored securely, and I will only ask for your name (in case of follow up questions), age, gender and occupation (to contextualise your answers). Once I’ve finished collecting and analysing the data, it will be anonymised so there is no way to identify you.

I unfortunately can’t reimburse people (PhD student life), but your data would really help me out, and eventually contribute to making games a more pleasant and healthier environment. If you don’t feel you can do the interview, but have something on the topic you would like to share, you can also leave a comment below.

Thanks in advance 🙂
