  1. A lot of players complain about how they aren’t able to war because their heroes are upgrading. However, with some strategic timing of your upgrades, you can stay in wars almost all the time! Here’s how:

    – Utilize preparation day
    – Utilize the 24 hour battle day
    – Utilize builder potions or gems

I feel like the biggest mistake people make when upgrading heroes is not utilizing the full 48 hours that a war takes to complete. It only takes 6 minutes to complete both attacks (or about an hour at max if you want to wait for the heroes to regenerate).

*Disclaimer: this method of upgrading your heroes only really works if your clan has some sort of war schedule. If your clan declares wars at random times, it will be difficult to follow. Additionally, if your clan doesn’t do back to back wars, you can still use this line of thinking.*

    #Normal Wars

    ### **Even numbered upgrade times** (2, 4, 6, 8 days)

On the chart you can see how upgrades that last 2 days, 4 days, 6 days or 8 days allows you to keep your heroes upgrading all the time while still managing to get in a war between upgrades. The key is to get both of your attacks in back to back so you can immediately put your heroes back down again.

*Note: although the table shows attacking at the start of the war, you can attack at any time. Just remember that if you decide to attack at the end of a war, you will need to wait until the end of the next war too.*

    ### **Odd numbered upgrade times** (3, 5, 7 days)

For upgrade times that last 3 days, 5 days, or 7 days it becomes a little more complex. Notice how on the chart the upgrade finishes when the war is finishing? There are a few different ways that you can handle this scenario:

    – **Let the upgrade run as usual**: Your heroes will finish a little bit after the war ends. On the chart it shows waiting until the next battle day until you put your heroes down again. However, another option would be to immediately upgrade your heroes once they finish. This means that your heroes will be finished at the start of day 7 and ready to attack at the beginning of battle day.
    – **Use a builder pot or gems**: If you decide to use a builder pot or gems in order to finish the upgrade early, you will be able to attack at the end of the war. This method works because the heroes will finish only a couple hours after the war is finished. Instead of waiting for the few hours to finish, speeding the upgrade up allow you to use your attacks at the end of war.

*Note: Depending on how your clan runs its wars, you may not even need to spend gems or a builder potion in order to use your heroes. For example: if your clan starts War #1 at 3pm and then War #2 at 5pm, the difference will be enough to just wait for your heroes to finish.*

    ### **Upgrade times with 12 hrs** (2d 12hr, 3d 12hr, 4d 12hr etc)

This is the easiest upgrade timer to plan for. Your heroes will always finish at the end of Preparation Day or at the end of Battle Day. You have a little bit more breathing room to upgrade your heroes so you don’t need to complete both of your attacks within an hour.

*Note: However many hours it takes for you to upgrade your heroes will effect how much time you have to attack in the next war. For example: if you attack within the first hour of War #1 you will have 11 hours to attack at the end of War #6. (Subtract the time it took you to attack from 12)*

    # CWL

A huge struggle for most players is deciding if they should wait to upgrade heroes after CWL or not. However, even with the longest upgrade timers you can get into at least a few wars during CWL! In addition to the tips listed above, utilize the full 48 hour sign up period. Here’s how:

    1. As soon as the Season Bank is awarded, upgrade your heroes.

    2. Convince your clan leader to wait until the very end of the CWL sign up time period to search for a match.

By doing this, you can basically get 3 days of upgrade time in before the first war. (2 days for CWL sign up + 1 day for Preparation Day)

Additionally, if you want to wait until the end of War #1 to attack, you could even finish a *4 day upgrade* in time!

    # Conclusion

Hopefully all of this makes sense! As you familiarize yourself with this way of upgrading heroes, it will become easier and you’ll be able to stay in wars more often. I could have added a few more things into this guide but I didn’t want to make it too long/overwhelming.
